The tools and techniques offer varying and multiple choices

Tools and techniques are different and quite numerous.

The actual process is never the same as people are all different, and the coach plays the role of a conductor, adapting the speed and the content to the state of mind, and to the openness of the coachee. Even if the coach always prepares his/her material beforehand, coaching is to a great extent improvising: the session is based on a “here and now” basis and exercises have to be performed with the right timing.

The coach will sometimes be easygoing, and sometimes more demanding. He explores, and creates together with the coachee. Listening and questioning alternate in a climate of empathy and the coach suggests and offers what she thinks and feels will be the most useful path. She opens doors, strengthen actual resources, and organizes an action plan. The focus is always on finding solutions. Take a step backwards, envisage events with new eyes, explore what is in front of you, and build up your future life: these are some of the steps we will go through to draw new paths.

We will sometimes use metaphors and role playing. In order to help creating as freely as possible, the coach never judges, and remains in a positive spirit of kindness. The coach will assist in developing the coachee’s potentials, beyond his/her own beliefs and own brakes.

The strength of the alliance coach-coachee is probably the greatest asset in creating really new solutions, new visions. There is no magic recipe, just a targeted intelligence, and the expectedness on the human’s potential. New behavior, new convictions will emerge, and they will become the real vectors of change.

Amongst other tools I will be using (not speaking of NLP tools of course), there are also:

  • Non-violent communication: “objective” observation, no judgment, usage of “I” instead of “You”
  • Transactional Analysis: roles and games around communication, relational exchanges, different states of the Self
  • Systemic approach: understanding of the different systems the coachee belongs to, visual representations and body perceptions.
